Looking for Fall Interns!

Looking for an opportunity to work outside, get involved in the community, and learn about urban agriculture?  Consider an internship with the Lansing Urban Farm Project (LUFP)!

IMG_5248LUFP is offering three unpaid urban farmer internships for Fall 2015.  Interns work with farm staff to plant, weed, tend, and harvest crops.  They also help prepare for markets, participate in community outreach, and complete other farm tasks and projects.

Qualified applicants will have strong communication skills, a desire to work as part of a farm team, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and the ability to perform a diverse set of farm tasks that includes lifting and carrying heavy objects (as much as 40 lbs at times).

Schedule:  Interns will work 1-2 mornings per week (to be discussed and decided upon ahead of time) either on Wednesdays 8am-noon or Thursdays 8am-noon.  Internships will begin the week of September 7th and go through mid-November.

Urbandale Farm Stand Now Open!

Good news everyone! If you find you can’t make it to the Allen Street Farmers’ Market to visit us on Wednesdays, now you can come by the farm on Saturdays from 10am-2pm now through the end of September.

Come for delicious, fresh produce and to take a look around. Did you know that if you live in the neighborhood you get a discount on everything at the farm stand?!

And…we are now able to accept EBT at the farm stand!

So, come on by the 700 block of S. Hayford Ave. Saturdays 10-2 and get your weekend vegetables!

Summer Urban Farmer Internships

LUFP is offering seven unpaid urban farmer internships for summer 2015.  Interns work with farm staff to plant, weed, tend, and harvest crops.  They also help prepare for markets, participate in community outreach, and complete other farm tasks and projects.

Qualified applicants will have strong communication skills, a desire to work as part of a farm team, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and the ability to perform a diverse set of farm tasks that includes lifting and carrying heavy objects (as much as 40 lbs at times).

Schedule:  There are two internship schedules to choose from—a schedule that meets once a week over three months or a schedule that meets daily for one month.  One day/week internships run from May 11th-August 28nd either on Wednesdays 8am-noon or Thursdays 8am-noon.  Monthly internships run Tuesdays through Fridays 8am-noon over one month of time, usually in May, June, July, or August.  Specify schedule preference in letter of interest.

Spring Urban Farmer Internships

LUFP is offering five unpaid urban farmer internships for spring 2015. Interns will work with farm staff to plant, weed, tend, and harvest hoop house crops.  Interns will also prepare outdoor fields for a season of growing and plant early crops such as onions, cabbage, radishes, and salad mix.  Interns will help prepare for markets, build community outreach, and complete other farm tasks.

Qualified applicants will have strong communication skills, a desire to work as part of a farm team, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and the ability to perform a diverse set of farm tasks that will include lifting and carrying heavy objects.

Internship schedule is one day per week through May 1st on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday afternoons 1pm-4pm.  Opportunities to continue internships into the summer exist for those interested.

We can hardly contain our excitement for the onset of spring!  Here we are shoveling snow from the south side of the hoop house to allow the full strength of sun in and preparing beds for our earliest crops.

March 2nd is deadline for Apprentice Applications

Urbandale Farm Apprentice Program

We are currently accepting applications for our 2015 Apprenticeship Program.  Apprenticeships run from April 28 through October 30, about 20 hours/week and include a mix of instruction, farm work, market experience, and field trips.  Apprentices receive a stipend of $4000 over the course of the program.  Deadline for applications is Monday, March 2nd.
