Internships

We offer unpaid spring, summer and fall internships at Urbandale Farm.  If you are interested, contact us at 517-999-3916.

Looking for an opportunity to get outside, grow vegetables, get involved in the community, and learn about urban agriculture?  Consider an internship with the Lansing Urban Farm Project (LUFP)!

LUFP is seeking interns who have an interest in urban agriculture, a desire to work as part of a farm team, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and the ability to perform a diverse set of farm tasks that will include occasional lifting and carrying of heavy objects.  Interns work with the farm manager to plant, weed, tend, and harvest crops.  They also help prepare for markets, participate in community outreach, and complete other farm tasks and projects.  Interns will work alongside farm apprentices and farm manager.

Spring internships: Spring internships run from mid-February through April 30 and will require two to four hours per week of on-site work. Interns will work with the farm manager to start seeds and plant, tend and harvest hoop house crops. Interns will also prepare outdoor fields for a season of growing and plant early crops such as onions, cabbage, radishes and salad mix.

Summer internships: Summer internships last between eight weeks and three months and run between June 1 through October 31. Option one: One day per week for eight to 12 weeks (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon preferred). Option two: Four days per week for one, two or three months. Interns work alongside farm apprentices and the farm manager to plant, weed, harvest and market produce.

Fall internships: Fall internships run from October 1 through November 30, excluding the week of Thanksgiving, and will require 2 to 4 hours per week of on-site work. Those hours will happen on weekdays between 8 a.m. and noon in the month of October and between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays in the month of November. Interns will work with the farm manager to winterize farm fields and plant, week, tend and harvest hoophouse crops. Interns also will help prepare for markets and farm stands, build community outreach and complete other farm tasks.
